What is Web Design?

Web design refers to the design of websites that appear on the web. It usually refers to the user experience aspects of website development, not software development. Previously, web design was focused on developing websites for desktop browsers; However, since the mid-2010s, the design of mobile browsers and tablets has become increasingly important.

A web designer works with the appearance, layout and in some cases the content of a website. For example, appearance refers to the colors, fonts, and images used. Layout refers to the way information is structured and classified. A good web design is user-friendly, aesthetic and adapts to the user group and the branding of the website. Many web pages are designed with an emphasis on simplicity so as not to display irrelevant information and functionality that could distract or confuse users. Since the cornerstone of a web designer's output is a site that gains and fosters the trust of the target audience, it is an important consideration to eliminate as much user frustration as possible.

Learn more about Web Designing

One of the key components of a successful product is to create efficient, effective and visually appealing displays. Creating such high-quality displays, whether graphic (such as websites) or material (such as remote controls), requires an understanding of human vision as well as knowledge of visual perception. By observing, researching and identifying examples of our perceptual abilities, we can design products in accordance with these unifying qualities. To spread such skills in the world of interaction design, we have developed Gestalt Psychology and Web Design: The Complete Guide.

Gestalt psychology is a theory of the mind that has been applied to various aspects of human thinking, acting and perceiving. In particular, Gestalt theorists and researchers try to understand visual perception in terms of how underlying processes are organized and how they help us understand the world. Over the past two decades, the work of Gestalt psychologists has been adopted by interaction designers and other professionals involved in developing products for human users.

Web Design vs. Website Development

Web Design refers to the visual design and experimental aspects of a particular website. In the rest of this article, we'll take a closer look at web design.

Website development refers to the building and maintenance of a website’s structure, and involves intricate coding systems that ensure the website functions properly.
